My Daily Skin Care Routine !!
A lot of us are confused about what to do to get amazing skin. Honestly, I don’t think there’s something like “perfect skin”. Everyone goes through some kind of skin problem at some point in their life. But you can always take care of your skin and make it amazing. There’s obviously a lot of different products, advice, recommends all around and I follow a lot of these beauty blogs and YouTube channels to be updated on the new products and tips to make my skin better.
I have been fighting acne for the last 10 years. I have tried various products and failed miserably. But my skin has been behaving good off late. I changed most of my skin care products and that has helped my skin improve a lot. My skin feels much better these days and I highly recommend these products to those who are going through the same.
Being a make up junkie, I realized that the key to good make up is a good skin. Your make up will look good only if you have a good skin. So I’m working towards that goal and I know I’ll get there slowly but surely !! I have over 10 products listed here and I don’t think I can do a detailed review about each and every product in one post. But I’ll definitely do for the ones that need the extra attention 😉
MORNING ROUTINE :
Ask any beauty/skin expert and they will tell you that establishing a good skin care routine is the best favour you can do to your skin. While we all make sure to remove our make up before going to sleep and use a night cream, a lot of us don’t pay much attention to our morning skin care routine.
Step 1 : I start off my morning with a cup of green tea, its light on your stomach and really good for your skin as well.
Step 2 : Cleanse
Cleansing your face is essential to clean away any night time dirt or make up residue for that matter. I use this foaming cleanser from La Roche Posay .
This product is really amazing and it leaves my skin perfectly clean, supple and comfortable. It is fragrance free and proved to be an angel for my troubled skin. This works well as a make up remover also. Make sure you Pat dry your face with a CLEAN towel or a tissue paper.
Step 3 : Exfoliate
Now this is something a lot of us tend to skip. I used to skip this all the time until I came up with my own DIY exfoliator. I exfoliate at least twice a week . But you could do it once or even thrice according to your preference. I mix tbsp Rice powder, 1 tbsp yogurt and 1/4th tbsp. turmeric for my DIY exfoliator and the days I’m too lazy to make this or if I’m running late, I prefer using the body shop tea tree face scrub. It’s a really good product for acne prone skin.
Step 4 : Toner
This is the most important step if you have acne prone skin. Toner will help you balance your skin and stop it from producing excess oil.
I prefer using an alcohol free toner and I’m in love with this pure rosewater toner from Forest Essentials. Its 100 % organic and it is so refreshing when sprayed onto your face. I always pat dry my face with cotton balls after applying toner.
Step 5 : Correcting Cream
La Roche Posay duo +
I bought this product along with my LRP foaming cleanser and I have been using this religiously ever since.
It is very light and calms my skin. My skin texture has become so much smoother after using this product. It reduces redness and works great as a spot treatment as well. The only thing I don’t like about this product is that it dries out my skin a little bit.
Step 6 : Mosturize
Forest Essential -hydrating aloe vera gel
I apply this wonder product right before I apply my sunscreen to just cool down my skin.
This product gives you an instant cooling sensation on the skin and it absorbs to your skin fast. I skip moisturiser as such in the morning and use this instead. It doesn’t break me out. Perfect for dry skin as well.
Step 7 : Sunscreen
Never ever skip sunscreen – even if you will be inside most of the day. Even a little sun can damage your skin badly. Always look for a product with an SPF of at least 20. I like anything above 30.
I use this La Roche Posay sunscreen(SPF 50) and it does a pretty good job to my skin. Chennai is getting hotter day by day and this has become a life saviour. It comes in a cute packaging and I’m really impressed !! I apply the Lotus sunscreen on my hands and on my feet before stepping out.
NIGHT TIME ROUTINE :
Step 1 : Remove your makeup
First thing first, remove your makeup !! I don’t use heavy makeup on a daily basis but I don’t step out without wearing my kajal :P. I use Bioderma makeup remover for my face and use the body shop makeup remover for my eyes and lips. I have already written a post about the Bioderma makeup remover here.
Step 2 : Face Masks
After getting back home from work, I make sure I put on a very simple home-made face mask to soothe and clear out the dirt on my face. Following are the three masks I prefer.
Plain Curd and green tea bag : I apply curd on the face and leave it for about 5 minutes and rinse it off with cold water. Curd helps in de tanning and it has a lot of other benefits as well. While I have the mask on, I also keep this used green tea bag (which I had kept in the freezer for about 8 hours) on my eyes. It’s really good for dark circles and calms yourself after a bad day at work.
Turmeric Pack : I’m sure a lot of you use this mask already. It’s the most used and abused face mask. Mix 1 Tsp of turmeric with 1 tsp of honey and half a slice of lemon. Apply gently on to your face, leave it for about 2-3 minutes and rinse off with cold water.
Sephora mask : I absolutely love Sephora face masks !! They are amazing and I have been trying out various masks and especially love the green tea and pomegranate one. I put on these once in two weeks. It cools your face and keeps it hydrated.
Price : Rs.480 per sheet.
Step 3 & step 4 : Cleanse and Tone
I use my Clinique anti-blemish cleanser and toner in the night and I have done a detailed review on this range and click here to read more. I’m on my second bottle and there’s no going back !
Step 5 : Serum
If there’s just one product that I could use for the rest of my life, it’s the Estee Lauder advanced night repair serum. This baby is hands down the best product that I have used till date. I can’t stress enough on the importance of using a night serum for your skin.
Estee Lauder claims that this serum repairs visible damage and help protect skin’s future. This anti-aging serum was awarded the “best Anti-aging Skin care Award” by Vogue and Estee Lauder sells about 5 bottles every minute worldwide!! That’s how amazing the product is !! It also evens out your complexion and fights wrinkles. I Use it every night to repair my past damages and to prevent future damages. It is expensive but definitely worth every penny. It did not break me out and perfect for all skin types.
Price : Rs.5200 for 30 ml .
Step 6 : Moisturiser :
I use the Cetaphil moisturizer before going to bed and I have done a detailed review on this one as well here.
Some skin care tips :
- Do not touch your face .
- Wash your face at least thrice a day.
- Make sure you use a sunscreen before stepping out.
- And do follow CTM routine every single day.
- Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated.
- Avoid oily food/sugar.
- Don’t use your nails on your pimples to itch, instead keep a cotton ball and just press it gently.
P.S NO! I have not got a clear skin overnight with these products, but I definitely feel the change and my skin is much better after following these steps.
