WEDDINGS BY WFA |Save The Date – Niya & Aditya |
Save-the-date has always interested me. I like the whole idea of dressing up, having a photo shoot and sending across invites to close ones using those cute and fun photos. Ever since I did a post on “Save the date” I have been wanting someone I know to experience the whole process. So, when my sister Niya was getting married, I knew I had to force her into doing this and somehow make it happen. Fortunately, she’s always up for anything fun and exciting. Amen to that !
This post has been long overdue and it’s only because both Niya and I were super packed till Last week. And, finally we got the time to sit down and share the experience with you lovelies She basically had a Save the date and pre-wedding shoot together.
I remember Save the date was the first thing she ticked off in the wedding planner and it was done 4 months prior to the wedding. Their idea behind the ‘Save the date’ card was to give the guests ample time to plan their travel to Chennai and Mumbai for the functions and of course the excitement of announcing the date!
“Another important factor was that we didn’t have a decent photograph together even after four years of dating”- adds Niya. Seems legit, isn’t it? 😛
Usually people decide on a theme first and work around it for the shoot. And I still remember when Niya had to decide on a theme, she went ahead with “WEDDING IS COMING” . Now if you are a GOT fan, you can relate to it, but if you are like me and haven’t watched it yet then here’s what she has to say about how they ended up on the theme :
“ It started off as a joke. Both Aditya and I are ardent fans of Game of Thrones and we twisted the famous line by Ned Stark, ‘Winter is coming’ to ‘Wedding is coming’ just to freak each other out. But then it had a nice ring to it and we decided to make a teaser card out of it. We got really excited with the idea and by the end of the week we were looking for ideas on Pinterest. ”
Save the date pictures might look fun and easy, but trust me planning the whole shoot is not that easy. I would say choosing the right Photographer is the key . Niya and Aditya decided to go with Weddings by Wfa and I think its only fair to let Niya explain what made her take that big decision :
“Instagram & Facebook, is where we started to look for photographers. A lot of hashtag trolling with inputs from friends became our way of researching potential photographers. During the process, we shortlisted four of them and one amongst them was weddings by Wfa.
We had thought out the entire shoot and the engagement pictures. A lot of these inputs were derived from Pinterest. We met all of the shortlisted photographers. Shared our expectations and visualisation. The aim being to find someone who we were genuinely comfortable with, has a valid experience and most importantly a team supporting the lead photographer.
We found Waseem very comfortable to talk to. What really enthused us about him was his enthusiasm and suggestions. He took our suggestions and made it happen. He was easy to work with and more importantly wasn’t dismayed by change of location, cloudy day and bad weather. He was an absolute delight to work with. “
About the location :
“We had to choose between the beaches of Chennai or gardens of Bangalore and we chose the latter. We narrowed down on Cubbon Park as suggested by Waseem and fixed the date for the shoot. The location was well maintained and beautiful “
To sum it up, Niya says “We did not want to experiment too much with our photo shoot and hence we decided to keep it simple. And we were really happy with the outcome. I had a great time doing the shoot and I personally feel every couple must go through this beautiful experience! “
Suggestions from Niya :
- Make sure the location compliments the kind of photographs you want to capture.
- Do a recce of the location before the shoot. This helps you get an idea of what and where you want to shoot.
- Keep a back-up plan in case if it rains or any obstacle for that matter (we learnt it the hard way).
- If you have to change your attire, look out for a place that has easy access to a restroom. Back-up plans work well here too!
- If it’s an outdoor shoot be prepared to have an audience of random onlookers.
- Do not be too experimental if you are not comfortable with it. Keep it simple and doable.
