Save-the-dates have greatly increased in popularity over the last few years and it has made its way to Indian weddings. It’s a great way to announce your wedding day and generate excitement among your guests. Not only are save-the-date cards a fun way to set the tone for your wedding, but they are practically a must have for couples having a destination wedding or for those who have it during the holiday season. It is especially helpful if you have many out-of-town guests that need to start planning their travel.
WHO TO SEND :
Save-the-date is an expected courtesy. Send it across to the people whom you want to come to your wedding -your close friends and very close relatives. Of course you don’t have to send one if you don’t want to, but it will give guests the heads up about your wedding plans. Between travel arrangements and busy schedules, sending a save-the-date will increase guests’ chances of attending your big day.
WHEN TO SEND :
It’s advised to send out save-the-date cards right after your wedding dates are fixed (generally, at least 5-6 months prior) This gives your wedding guests ample time to plan their travel, book tickets, save a bit of cash, and get off from work.
Your save-the-date doesn’t have to be formal like your invitations. Some people include a short poem or a favourite lovey-dovey quote but we advice you to keep it short and simple. Save the date cards are to tell people that you are getting married, and it just has the date and place. Here are a few examples of how people announce their wedding :
SAVE-THE-DATE VS INVITATIONS :
Save-the-date cards are not as same as invitations. Save-the-dates are much less formal than the wedding invitation. Invites should go out about 2 months before your big day and should contain specific details(the ceremony and reception details) that aren’t usually part of save-the-dates. That reminds me, some guests will think your save-the-dates are invites, avoid confusion by printing “invitation to follow” on your Save-the-Date card.
The design of your save-the-date can be a great way to set the mood of your wedding with a theme that will be incorporated in everything from your invitations to your decor. Popular types of save-the-date announcements are magnets, postcards and stickers. Using photograph is another way to announce your wedding date to guests. If the two of you have dated for a long time, a picture from when you first met next to a current picture is a sweet way to tell guests you’re tying the knot. If you are a pet lover, you could include your pet for a fun photoshoot. Following are few of our personal favourite’s :
