The broke ass bride’s guide – PART 1
All of us have a budget when it comes to weddings and Indian weddings are no joke ! Sometimes, we go over board and before we know it we are spending wayyyy more than the budget !!
Now, here are a few tips and tricks that will not only help you save some money but also have the gorgeous wedding you have always wanted !
Like I’ve already mentioned wedding cards come first in the order of a wedding process and here’s how you can save some pennies :
Go “E” – Everything is about the internet today. Well, hey ! Why don’t you send out some e-invites for your wedding then ? This is THE best way to cut down the costs when it comes to wedding cards. Well you cannot send out e-invites to everyone (yes, I’m talking about the nosey and judge-y relatives :P), but you can send them to your friends on your social network profiles and to the ones that are living in other states ( way better than sending it by way of couriers ).
Do not print separate invites – Sometimes we tend to print separate invites for friends and family which is totally unnecessary( I did this :P, trust me I wish I did not ! ). Instead just pick one gorgeous design that you can distribute to both your friends and family and in case you want a card in your mother tongue, just print an extra leaflet rather than printing an extra card altogether !
I got my cards printed from SUBH CARDS, Chennai. 😀
MEHENDI AT HOME
Mehendi/Sangeeth ceremonies are such a big deal these days ! It is the most anticipated event of the wedding and the most fun I must say ! To have a fun night, it is not necessary to book a huge banquet hall that is going to burn your pockets. All you have to do is plan a mehendi/sangeeth at home ! This is how :
Be your own DJ – Music is a major part of this event. Try to borrow a portable speaker from a friend or a relative and download your favorite songs and store them on your phone/iPod a week before the event. This way you can dance away to your fav tunes all night !
Simple DIY Decor – Tiny details can go a long way! Instead of hiring a decorator, gather a few friends and work on these simple DIY’s and your mehendi ceremony will look like a Bollywood set ! (too much ? :P)
Suspend a few marigolds over the arches of your house or tie a thick thread to two pillars and hang them on the thread ! Perfect as a backdrop for photos too
You could even hang some super colorful umbrellas like these if you have them ! If you don’t have them you could order them online, they are pretty cheap.
Favors – Hmm, the hard part ! Well, I’m going to give the most stingy-est ideas but they are not going to seem anything like that !
FUN PHOTO BACKDROPS AT WEDDING –
I’m sure some one in the family will have a cycle ! Borrow the cycle and wrap it with marigolds or flowers of your choice ! You can even wrap it with colored glitter paper if you wish.
Wedding photo frames are a must have these days ! Cut out a cardboard in the shape of a frame and stick some fun stickers – things you like, little stars, cartoons, a picture of you and your groom to be. Let your imagination go wild and make the frame as colorful as possible. Do not forget to write the date !!
Tip : If you are planning an event on your own or a DIY for any party, just make sure you plan a little in advance !
This post is going to have a part 2 where I talk about how to save money on wedding lehengas/wedding favors/ makeup and your honeymoon !! So stay tuned !! 😀
Until next time,
